What is my style?

Custom interior design projects are fun, but the number of decisions can be overwhelming.

The very first decision: what is my style?

It should be as easy as knowing what you like, but how does that translate to an interior design “style”?

Arguably there are 40 distinct styles, we will share a few of the basics.

  • Art Deco (delicate, streamlined and geometric designs; all things urban and modern)
  • Arts & Crafts (focused on the simplicity of form — spotlight on the workmanship)
  • Asian (minimalist look with ornamental designs and infused with natural elements)
  • Bohemian style (bold with layers of color, pattern and texture; free-spirited)
  • California Chic (an element of more traditional southwestern style with eclectic South California beach cities)
  • Contemporary (features clean, sleek lines and swaths of solid colors)
  • Country (vintage fabric patterns, and elements have a handmade, almost folk-art quality)
  • Eclectic (taking a little from all styles; its imaginative appeal lies in unexpected contrasts and the element of surprise).
  • Industrial (exposed building elements like pipes and duct work; open floor plans, furniture made from rustic wood, metal and leather)
  • Modern (rooted in the minimal, true use of materials and absence of decoration)
  • Moroccan (heavily layered looks, colorful mosaics, metal lanterns and ornately carved wooden accents)
  • Scandinavian (simple and functional; not decorative)
  • Southwestern (Influence by Native American and the Spanish entrada, characterized by warm, sun-washed colors, exposed ceiling beams and handcrafted items)
  • Traditional (classic styling and symmetry, mid-tone colors)

It is best to explore these styles to get a feel for what fits you.
